Moses could tell things were getting bad and chose to enlist in the Polish army as a way of protecting his family. In August of 1939, Poland conducted its last census before the war, his brother was listed as being able to serve in the army. In September of 1939, Germany invaded Poland and Moses and his brother - who was drafted into the Polish army - were sent to Poznan for training.
